In 2014-15 the adults of our school community started to talk about the BIA mindset and attitude - Best In America. We embraced the idea of putting our best foot forward at all times for our students, their families and our community. Five years later, the BIA mindset is alive and well because what started with the adults has been reciprocated by our students. A great example of this is the recent achievements of our athletic teams, especially our Lady Rockets basketball team. They put their best foot forward on the court, in the classroom, in our hallways, and in our community.
The #RBBisBIA mindset starts with our staff and grows stronger because of our students. We have challenged our students to be their best selves in all they do - on the field, around our community, and in our classrooms. They have stepped up to the challenge and super-charged our school culture with positivity, resilience and kindness. These young women leaders exemplify our district's spirit!
“Dream BIG...We’ll Help You Get There!” is our mantra. It starts with inspiring kids to believe in themselves but the core is providing the support and pathways for our students to achieve these dreams. In one lesson, we connected our students’ dreams for a Red Bank Borough skate and bike park with a lesson in community involvement, service, leadership, and civics.
Managing the pandemic has forced us to reimagine our mission and reassess our priorities. While social-emotional learning (SEL) has always been a component of our work, the challenges presented by these extraordinary times create an opportunity for us to further understand the benefits of SEL and embrace its integration in new ways. Now more than ever, we are committed to growing hearts so that we can grow minds.
“Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets dual content objectives” (The Kennedy Center for the Arts, 2021). In partnership with the Count Basie Center for the Arts and The Kennedy Center for the Arts, teachers, and students in the Red Bank Borough Public Schools participate in many performing and visual arts integration experiences during the school year.
