Hoops...We Did It Again!
Undefeated, Untied, and Undenied!
The Red Bank Middle School Lady Rocket Basketball Team took the Shore Athletic League Championship with a regular season record of 17 - 0. This is the second consecutive title win for this memorable group of girls. The team was led by 8th-grade Captains Tyasia Cooper and Claudia Garcia. Cooper, a point guard, set a personal best by scoring 310 points this season, and Garcia was a consistent force making big plays on both ends of the court.
The successful run of the Lady Rockets can be attributed to a strong defense, good hustle, and a cohesive approach to the net. Coach Amy Campbell said she believed early in the season that the girls had the capacity to take the title. She attributes the recent success of the program to a community approach in preparing the girls for the season. “Many of our student-athletes are playing on the court for the first time in their lives,” said Campbell, “This takes a lot of support and preparation in terms of teaching the skills and dedication necessary to compete.”
The Red Bank Middle School Basketball program is fortunate to partner with local hoop stars Coach Frost and Coach Teeigh of Fusion Elite Basketball. Both Coach Frost and Coach Teeigh grew up in Red Bank and played for the Red Bank Middle School team. Combining their expertise with the knowledge and leadership of Head Coach Campbell and Boys Coach Isaac Nathanson has made all the difference for the student-athletes. “We continue to be a work in progress,” says Coach Campbell, but by the looks of the perfect season and the back-to-back championship titles, it seems like these RBMS Lady Rockets will continue to soar!
