Expanding a Special Community Partnership
The Red Bank Primary School has benefited tremendously over the past several years thanks to a special partnership with the Count Basie Center for the Arts. This year we welcomed two new programs to our array of after-school offerings.
The Primary School's Dance Class is an after-school program for second and third-grade students. Taught by the Primary School's Emily Vascimini and Red Bank Regional's Cara Sacco, the weekly class focuses on building a foundation of ballet technique and creative movement. Students explore the elements of dance and learn sequences of movement through ballet exercises. Our students are provided the opportunity to create movement of their own and apply and practice their technique. At the end of the program, the students perform for their peers and showcase what they have learned.
Our second addition this year was our Stormy Singers. This program is led by Primary School Kindergarten Teacher George Platis. The Stormy Singers program helps our youngest singers gain confidence and encourages them to think creatively. Additionally, the students are able to learn and apply new socials skills in a musical and theatrical setting. Participating and training in arts education is tremendously beneficial for all students. Through the use of instruments, imaginative play, and singing, the Stormy Singers learn to work together as a team.
Yvonne Lamb Scudiery, Vice President of Education, Count Basie Center for the Arts states, "Understanding the importance of arts experiences, and the impact they make on young lives….we are proud to support Stormy Singers and the Dance Class - team spirit and collaboration at their finest!"
As always, we are extremely grateful for our partnership with the Count Basie Center for the Arts. Each year we evaluate our partnership to identify ways to improve outcomes and expand opportunities for our students. Thanks to Yvonne Lamb Scudiery and the staff at the Count Basie Center for the Arts we are able to engage our students in a comprehensive educational experience and inspire them to Dream BIG!
