A High Performing School District with Exemplary Educators

In January of 2019, the New Jersey State Board of Education certified the Red Bank Borough Public Schools as a district providing a thorough and efficient education. The certification is based on the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC) which designated the school district as “high performing.”  NJQSAC was originally enacted in 2005 as school district accountability system. Today, districts undergo an intense accountability evaluation every three years to ensure all students are provided the educational experience they deserve. The evaluation includes quality performance indicators in five component areas including Instruction and Program, Fiscal Management, Governance, Operations, and Personnel. The Red Bank Borough Public Schools are excited about this recognition from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and are particularly proud of the significant academic growth demonstrated by students on the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jared Rumage stated, “The structures we have put in place are clearly paying dividends for our students. I am extremely proud to be a part of a school district that has moved the needle so quickly regarding learning outcomes. It is a credit to our school leadership, our dedicated faculty and staff, and our talented students. And I do believe the best is yet to come.”

Additionally, the school district received more great news just recently. Every other year, the New Jersey Department of Education recognizes outstanding educators throughout the state with the Exemplary Elementary Educator Award.  Through a rigorous selection process, the New Jersey Exemplary Elementary Educator program identifies educators who are valued by their school and community and have exhibited strong knowledge and skills, an inspiring presence, and a clear vision for quality teaching and learning.

In 2018, five teachers from Monmouth County received this prestigious distinction, and two are members of the Red Bank Borough Public Schools. The first is Red Bank Primary School Kindergarten Teacher, Alyssa May.  Alyssa joined our staff in September of 2010. She is a teacher leader in and out of Red Bank Primary School. As a lifelong learner, she is pursuing her Doctorate in Education and recently completed her Supervisor certification. She is highly professional in her interactions with all stakeholders. Alyssa’s organizational skills enable her to run a very effective and efficient student-centered classroom. Her experience developing and implementing curriculum was clearly seen at RBPS when she and a colleague undertook the task of revamping our entire Kindergarten day. Alyssa provides professional development at local, county and State conferences as well as in other Districts. Her room is visited often by outsiders coming in to see what a model Kindergarten classroom looks like. Finally, Alyssa values linguistic and cultural diversity. Her teaching background as an ESL teacher enhances every lesson taught.

The second award winner is Grade 4 Teacher at Red Bank Middle School, Ms. Lara Wengiel.   Lara started at Red Bank Middle School in 2004. Lara is a dedicated, hardworking, and committed staff member who often takes a leadership role and is well-liked by students, colleagues, and parents.  Lara has piloted many curricular initiatives and plays an ongoing role in curriculum development for the fourth grade. Additionally, she is one of the biggest advocates for her students and is always ready to celebrate their successes!  Her classroom has served as a model for our partnership with The Basie Center for the Arts in the area of arts integration for many visitors. Her hard work, passion for teaching, and commitment to the children of Red Bank are all reasons why Lara Wengiel is a recipient of the NJ Department of Education’s Exemplary Educator Award.

The Red Bank Borough Public Schools are proud of our QSAC recognition and our award-winning teachers.
