Welcome to Red Bank Primary School, home of Stormy the Eagle. Nearly 500 students and 120 dedicated staff members call the Primary School their home. As you enter our school, you are welcomed into an amazing place where students of all backgrounds and ability levels are learning to become active citizens in our community. Our district’s vision and mission statements say it all: We believe our children should dream big. We will inspire. We will challenge. They will achieve. Driven by the needs of our children, we provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging learning environment for EVERY student, every day.
Teacher leaders have taken on the tremendous task of writing new and innovative curriculum that meets the needs of all learners and embeds 21st century skills and community outreach. The staff is constantly working together to improve teaching and learning. Our curriculum committees create units of study that infuse all subject areas into reading and incorporates the local community who help bring content to life. We are always seeking new topics and community partnerships to supplement themes. Grade levels work in Professional Learning Communities a minimum of fifty hours a year to discuss teaching and learning, look at data to help drive instruction and work on team goals. This allows for consistency within the classrooms and time to collaborate. Teachers conduct peer observations by going into classrooms from cross sections. They then have time to meet and discuss best practices and linear transitions.
We have many resources available to students and staff, both with technology and with the flexibility and freedom to go beyond the classroom walls. Students have their own Chromebook, which they use daily. In addition to core academic content, students have classes in Music, Art, Physical Education, Health and World Language.
At the Primary School, we celebrate students of ALL abilities. Beginning at age three, we offer extensive services through Intervention and Referral Services, Early Intervention, Response to Intervention (RtI) and the support of the Child Study Team. Our Speech and Language therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and Behaviorists collaborate with staff to promote generalization of skills throughout all classroom contexts. Our goal is to give all learners the support they need in order to function at their ultimate level of independence.
In order to meet the needs of all our children, we bring in various outside resources to assist students with their health needs. The VNA visits three times a week. The Mobile Dentist provides on-site cleanings and basic dental care. We also receive donations through Project Connect, St. Anthony’s Church and United Way for families in need during the holiday season. In addition, United Way of Monmouth and Ocean County provides coats, hats, gloves and other items to help students throughout the cold months. Locally based Bridge of Books Foundation donates books for our students to take home.
Community is a large part of learning at Red Bank Primary School. You will often see parents in the classrooms for various activities throughout the year, and to help students and teachers with daily learning experiences. Throughout the school year, we gather as a school and community to recognize our students with various awards for citizenship and achievement. Our PTO is an active group comprised of parents and staff. Events are often standing room only and include Movie Nights, Harvest Festival, Winter Fest, and International Night just to name a few. The safety of our students and staff is a priority. Third graders are selected to be a part of our “Safety Patrol” and hold regular meetings with our School Counselors to discuss concerns and strategies.
The Primary School works with a variety of community partners in order to enhance the educational experience for all students. The Count Basie Center for the Arts located in the heart of Red Bank offers our students opportunities to attend various performances each year. Through Count Basie’s community outreach program, teaching artists are invited into the classroom and help with after school programs such as Kids on Broadway.
Our first graders work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program through Family & Children’s Services of Monmouth County, which provides readers weekly to work with students throughout the year. In partnership with the YMCA, all third graders have the opportunity to take swimming lessons in the spring. Each year new students are accepted into the Horizons program housed at Rumson Country Day School. Horizons National is an award-winning, tuition-free, summer academic program serving low-income, public school students across the country. The Red Bank Borough Education Foundation has been a large supporter of many Primary School programs and initiatives which combines STEM with Art as well as educational enrichment trips and special assemblies.
Dreaming Big happens every single day at the Primary School. With the support of our staff, families and partnerships, our students are encouraged to work hard, show grit and have a positive growth mindset. We invite you to learn and see first-hand the incredible opportunities afforded to our students and see for yourself why Red Bank Borough is Best in America - come, be part of our dream!
